You can also progress from this to gain a full teaching qualification (QTLS) in the post-16 sector. This course is suitable whatever area/subject/sector you are looking to teach. It is suitable for:
The course is a natural progression for those learners that have already achieved levels 3 or 4. However, learners with the required experience can also enroll straight on to the level 5 course.
Learners may have already completed the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and/or the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or have the required experience to be able to enroll onto this course.

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training will enable you to work in a teaching role and progress on to gain full QTLS status (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills). The course will prepare students to teach in a wide range of contexts including further, private, adult or community education or work-based learning. Learners who successfully complete this qualification will take an analytical and practical approach to all aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, learners will embed theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their own teaching practice.
The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector, such as:
To achieve the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, learners must achieve a minimum of 120 credits across various units. You be fully guided and supported by your tutor through these units. In general, the course comprises of assignments/evidence pieces, 100 hours teaching practice and 8 assessed observations.
You will need to provide evidence that you have met all the learning outcomes required for this course. This will include:
An example of work you will need to complete for the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is: 100 teaching hours (teaching you have done 3 months prior to starting the course may be taken into account), lesson observations (including lesson plans) and assignments.
You will be fully supported and guided by your tutor throughout the duration of the course and they will be easily contactable should you need their support.
The Total Qualification Time (as set out by TQUK) is 1200 hours. This course takes approximately 9 months to a year to complete, depending on the time you have.
