“A leader is a person who takes control in a positive way. They guide people towards individual and group success while setting a great example. Leaders tend to have specific objectives with steps in place to achieve their goals over long-term periods of time. They are able to understand a company vision as well as the value of hard work and persistence, being adaptable where required as they lead a team to meet certain milestones”

A business or organisation can benefit dramatically from having effective leadership. Effective leaders demonstrate passion, support, knowledge and teamwork alongside other traits. While not everybody is born with these strengths, through learning and practicing, anybody can become a great leader, enabling a business or organisation to succeed.

A leader is not necessarily somebody in a managing or directing role at a company, in fact, they can be somebody new to the company or in a lower hierarchical position. Being a great leader is not linked to position in a business, but the way you are able to inspire others and encourage others to follow your lead. This course will help you to do this and to become the leader that you want to be.

This course includes a task that you can do with your team, and for yourself, to be able to recognise strengths and then go from there to set realistic and achievable targets. The course discusses growth mindset and how to create this culture within a workplace as well as the importance of coaching in order to achieve a working team that strives to problem solve and innovate for themselves.

This course will look into the benefits of effective leadership, including the positive impact it can have on an organisation and the traits of a great leader. It will then go on to explore the differences between teams and groups, Tuckman’s stages of group development, going into the various types of leadership, how to communicate and manage performance effectively, managing change and conflict. Finally, the course will conclude by outlining the importance of equality and diversity, including the team leader’s role in supporting equality.
