Course Description

The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is government regulated and approved by TQUK. The course forms part of the Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance (TAQA) suite of qualifications for England, Wales and Northern Ireland; separate standards are available in Scotland. It therefore meets the highest standards of professional courses and is extremely popular.

The course has been designed for those who want to work within internal quality assurance, or are currently doing so. It will qualify you to quality assure ANY sector! If you have been looking after the quality of training or have been responsible for making sure employees work according to procedures and practice within your work place, you can transfer your experience and get qualified as an Internal Quality Assurer (IQA).

With this qualification you can get a job within any company in internal quality assurance or become the Internal Quality Assurer of training centres, which is Internal Moderator/Verifier (as formerly known) It is therefore perfect for beginners or those new to an IQA role or those currently working within this role but not yet formerly qualified.

This is an online course so you can complete it at your own pace, in the comfort of your own home.

The qualification is made up of a combination of two units according to IQA job roles:

  • Unit 1 - Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment: This is the foundation of the course as it will equip you with all the knowledge and understanding you need to become a very good Internal Quality Assurer. You will use these principles and practices throughout your career as an IQA and also apply them during your unit 2 assessment.
  • Unit 2 - Internally assure the quality of assessment: This is the final unit of this course where you will learn how to practically quality assure the quality of assessment processes according to standards and criteria. You will have the opportunity of quality assuring the work of two Assessors to complete this unit.

Each unit consists of learning outcomes and assessment criteria at level 4. Learning outcomes are what the learner will do, assessment criteria are what the learner can do. The units can be achieved in any order but it is advisable in this course to complete unit 1 and then move onto unit 2. You will be fully supported throughout the duration of the course.

  • Learning Outcome and Assignment Guidance – this will enable you to see the learning outcomes you will achieve by completing the units within this course.
  • Online Video – a fantastic aid to help support visual learners.
  • Supplementary Resources – this section is full of useful templates, hand outs and information created to support your learning and the start of your career as an IQA.
  • Referencing Guide – this will help you to reference others’ work in your assignments.

Achieving the Units

Learners must achieve 12 credits from the two units (6 in each unit):

  • Unit 1 will be assessed by assignment, professional discussion and/or oral and written questions (Assignments 1-6)
  • Unit 2 will be assessed by observation of your performance, professional discussion and/or oral and written questions, along with a review of products and evidence of your work (Assignments 7-10)

You will need to complete various quality assurance activities with your assessors to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding. This is to meet all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units you are working towards. You will need to identify who and what you will internally quality assure for the performance units, and keep all records relating to the IQA activities you undertake. You will need to have your decisions countersigned by another qualified IQA in the same subject area as yourself. You will be formally assessed and will receive feedback regarding your progress on the online learning platform.

When will I receive the course information so that I can start?

After paying your initial deposit to Gateway Workshops, you will receive a course confirmation within 24 hours from your course tutor. This will contain full course details and further payment information. You will then be required to set up an installment plan or make payment in full to your tutor. Once your tutor has received the initial course payment or payment in full, you will receive an email notification and link to the online material. You can start your course as soon as you receive the link to the online learning platform (this can be within 24 hours of booking your course!)

How long does this course take to complete?

The Total Qualification Time (as set out by TQUK) is 90 hours.

This course is a distance learning course and so can be completed at your own convenience. You have up to a year to complete the course but it can be completed in much less time – depending on the time that you have to give. If you wanted to complete this fast and have the time to dedicate to it, you can complete it within 4 weeks - or you can take your time and give yourself as long as you need.

Entry Requirements

To take this course, the following is advisable:

  • Be competent in your field, the subject you want to assess
  • Level 2 written and spoken English (Equivalent to GCSE A-C)
  • IT literate (Internet, Microsoft office)
  • Able to understand and interpret course materials
  • Self-motivated 
  • Basic understanding of quality assurance
  • Be working within an IQA capacity
  • Have access to a qualified IQA who can provide an expert witness statement on your role as a trainee

IQA Course Accreditation

This course is approved and regulated by Training Qualifications UK (TQUK). TQUK are an Ofqual recognised Awarding organisation, providing a wide range of vocational qualifications to FE Colleges and private training providers. As an Ofqual recognised awarding organisation, all of TQUK's qualifications are guaranteed to conform to a high standard. This qualification has been mapped to the relevant Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), National Occupational Standards (NOS), and sits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the Ofqual recognised, Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF) Accredited Certified Insurable Online Course.
